Growth and developement are very important aspects of a child's life. If a child is growing without development, it becomes a health issue, on the other hand, if a child is developing and lack growth, it is also a health problem. Hence, every child needs a combination of these two factors to live healthily and make the parents happy. By growth, it means consistent and gradual increase in height and size. But development talks about such factors like; the strength of the muscles, bones and joints, the sharpness of the brain in understanding and articulation of information, in reasoning and so on. It therefore means that development covers, the intellectual, mental, social, emotional, psychological, logical and academical aspects of life. Growth is very important, but growth without development makes no sense. 

Unfortunately, most parents and guidance,  does not see the need to consider the overall development of their child/children useful. This is reflected on how they feed such child/children. Feeding is and important aspect of our lives and plays a very crucial role in our health, growth and development. But the kind of food we give to our children will tell better, if we are interested on the good health, or on growth, or on development.
The truth you must know here is that, all food may produce growth, but not all food can produce development or good health. It therefore becomes crucial for every parents to take cognizance of the kind of food they give to their child/children. This brings us to the topic of today's content;

If you are very much interested on the development of your child, especially in such areas like; mental and intellectual aspects, the following foods can help you achieve this aim;

                                                       EGGS:

Eggs are excellent source of choline, vitamin B12, and protein, all these are greatly needed for brain development, memory enhancement and cognitive function. No hard saying that, children who are always fed with eggs, always perform excellently in the school.
           
                                               YOGURT:

Yogurt is another food item needed for an overall intellectual and cognitive development of every child. It is a very powerful source of protein, amino acids, and iodine. All these support the neurotransmitter synthesis, cognitive function, and thyroid hormone production. Children fed with this set of food, also perform well academically.

                                     FATTY FISH:
         

Fatty fish like; salmon are highly rich in omega-3 fatty acids, specifically docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which is recommended and essential for brain and cognitive function. This kind of food can develop a child intellectully and mentally.


                                                BERRIES:
                                                

Berries, specifically the blue category, are rich in flavonoids, which has a great advantage for the brain functioning. It also improve brain and cognitive function, thus is reccommended for a child's intellectual development.

Citrus fruit is another set of food needed by the child for overall intellectual and cognitive development. These fruits are rich in vitamin C, and antioxidants, which are needed for various metabolic body functioning and brain development in children.
    
                               GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES:
                   
Green leafy vegetables are another set of food that every child needs for an overall cognitive development. Spinach, kale and collards category of green leafy vegetables are highly rich in nutrients like; vitamin K, lutein, folate and beta-carotene. All these nutrients are essential for builing healthy brain and memory.

                                                   SWEET POTATOES:
                         

Sweat potatoes has been recommended for overall brain and memory functioning, especially in children. This is because they are highly rich in antioxidants, vitamins and various minerals that can support cognitive development and functioning. 


                                                      NUTS:
 
Nuts like; walnuts and other nuts of the same kind are highly rich in nutrients which supports brain functioning, verbal and logical reasoning, and total cognitive performance. Thus, they are recommended for a child's total cognitive development.

                                                  BEANS:
Beans are rich in proteins and various essential nutrients needed for cognitive and mental development, especially in children.

In summary, there is no magic or shortcut towards cognitive development in children. It's all a process that started from the first day of the child's existence and life. It thus becomes the responsibilty of both parents the determine and decide the intelletual and cognitive ability of their child/children by taking into consideration the kind of food nutrient to be given to their child/children, especially on the early stage of their development. Once again, every food can produce growth in children, but not all food can produce development, and development is likely more important.
