I welcome every member of Nwasir Aguwa Blog Spot to today's edition of health issues. Do not forget that my blog is targeting in the life of it's members a life free from any form of ill health, diseases and sicknesses. This can only be achieved by creating awareness so that you can know the different conditions that can alter your health, because if you are not informed, you are likely going  to be deformed. For this purpose, this platform has come to stay, to inform, educate and civilize its wonderful members on the things that can threaten their healthy wellbeing.

Today, we are considering another aspect and part of our body, that needs not to be infected by any kind of disease or sickness. But disease is no respecter of any part of the body, not minding the function, important, or relevance. But unfortunately, in your lack of knowledge, you may acquire the sickness to yourself, which may affect this delicate and indispensable body part.

I want to consider the human brain in today's content.

As we get ready to dive in together, you need to know the areas of consideration in today's lecture:                                                                              1. What is the brain all about?

2. How important is the brain to man?

3. What are the 4 pessimistic common attitudes that can destroy your brain?

Let's get started;

1. What is the brain all about ?

The brain is referred to as a complicate or complex central organ of the nervous system that is responsible for processing and interpreting information, facilitating thoughts, emotions and behaviors and controlling movements. The brain is majorly made up of; the cerebrum, the brainstem and the cerebellum.

From the definition above, you can see why the brain is not supposed to be infected by any kind of disease, because whatever that tampered with your brain, has directly tampered, impede and jeopardized your entire life. Anything we are or supposed to be, is dependent on how healthy and normal our brain is. Thus, every of the life we live on earth is being coordinated, regulated and directed by our brain. Hence, without the brain or with an unhealthy or abnormal brain, the life makes no actual meaning. To this end I will like to take you through some of the importance and functions of your brain, if so be you can see the reason to guide, maintain and protect your brain so as for anything not to tamper with it.


2. How important is the brain to man?

As  you already know that the brain is important for life and existence on the planet earth, the question is. how? For this, I want to point out some of the ways our brain has proved significant importance to us when compared with other parts of our body. The following therefore are the areas of importance of the brain and it crucial roles in the life of every human being.

(a) Decision making:   Life is full of decisions, and everyday  we make one decision or the other. It is the brain that enable us to make choice, to choose the good from the wrong. Hence, no man can be able to make any good decision without the brain working normal.

(b) Information storage: The life we live everyday, is also full of information, including the useful ones that can be of help to us. Then, if our brain is not in a healthy condition, that is why we forget many of those useful information that we receive from people, even the ones that can help save our lives from danger. It is most of the information we get every day and stored in our brain, that is retrieved when the need arise, so as to carry out important actions.

(c) Problem solving: You will also believe with me that life is all about challenges and problems from every aspect, ranging from business to scientific challenges. Then to take care of all these challenges, our brain needs to be healthy, active and functioning.

(d) Interpretation of stimuli: Some times we may find ourselves in places that may not go well with our health, some times when we perceive some environmental changes, we cannot understand what it is all about, until our brain interprets it to us before we can now respond by moving away from such environments. This function makes the brain to act as a security to the other parts of the body, because it interprets and inform us when there is a danger, for us to take immediate actions. It takes a healthy brain to do that.

 (e) Recognition and identification: It is the brain that helps you to recognize and identify things and people around you. You see why you cannot even recognize your child any time something tampered with your brain. You will see something but without the brain functioning very well, you can never recognize it. In this case, you may identify letter "A" as letter "B", a dog as a goat, a house may seem to you as a tree, a car you may interpret as a wheelbarrow, and so on.

(f) Behavior control: The brain have the responsibility to determine how you will behave. That is why the behavior a man will display at any given time is the revelation of how his brain is functioning at that given time. This is also the reason, when you are under the influence of hard drug, your behavior will automatically change because the drug has affected the mood of operation of your brain at that time. Hence, you need a healthy and properly functioning brain to behave normal. In this case, an adult man can behave like a little female child, or even a human being as an animal, as a result of abnormalities in the brain.

(g) Planning  or organization of things: The brain also plays another important role in helping us to plan our lives, future, businesses, carrier and so on. Thus, nobody can be able to carryout a good plan, except your brain is healthy and functioning. when the brain is not properly at work and you want to set up a business, you may end up setting a business plan that can collapse the business.

These and many others, are the key functions of the brain. With this, you now see the reason the brain should not and must not be allowed to be infected by any kind of ill health. Unfortunately. you may contribute to altering the proper functioning of your brain by involving in the following 4 pessimistic common life attitudes. This brought us to the last section of today's content:

What are the 4 pessimistic common attitudes that can destroy your brain?                                                                 When it comes to ensuring the healthy condition and proper functioning of the brain, there are some common attitudes that can act as a threat to this, which can jeopardize how proper your brain would work. These attitude may seem normal to you as an individual, but before you get to know what is going on, you brain might have been affected. These attitudes include:

1. Lack of sleep.


                               What is sleep?                                                                                     Sleep is a natural process through which the body and the brain is refreshed, recovered and allowed to rest. It means that sleep occurs by nature, and without which the body and the brain will be over used. Unfortunately, some people who seem to be hardworking and unlazy deny themselves this sweat and health benefiting natural experience. Even God who created, the day, man, work and the night, understood the indispensable benefit of sleep and knew that man must work and at the same time have time to sleep. But the desire to accumulate enough wealth told so many people that sleep is for the weak and lazy people, who doesn't have any vision to be wealthy. Anyways, nonmatter how you under it and your own concept, remember my blog spot is to encourage and promote good health and at the same time enhance hard work, but non can be substituted with the other. That is to say in your vision for wealth accumulation, consider your health, because the cost of taking care of the problem lack of sleep can cause, the money you accumulated may not be enough. At this point, lets step into the negative impact of lack of sleep to our brain as human being.       

HOW CAN LACK OF SLEEP AFFECT OUR BRAIN?

Lack of sleep can have the following negative effects to your brain:

1. Lack of sleep can weaken your mood of attention and focus, which may scatter your daily plans.

2. Lack of sleep leads to memory lapses, which can make you to forget important things very easily.

3. Lack of sleep lowers your reaction time, even when there is danger.

4. When you don't have enough sleeping hours, it can lead to mood disturbances, which can lead to anxiety, depression and irritability.

5. Lack of sleep can lead to brain inflammation, which may result to neurogenerative disease.

6. Poor sleep can affect the ability of the brain to adapt to changes around you.

All these describes how important sleep is to maintain a healthy and functioning brain. Remember that lack of sleep can also lead to fatal accidents during the day, because when the brain is not working how it supposed to work, and you enter road with the vehicle, anything can happen.


2. Poor nutrition.

                 What do we mean by poor nutrition?                                                     Poor nutrition is a phenomenon in which a person does not receive the correct amount of food nutrient needed for the body function. It can be in the form of undernutrition or overnutrition. In both cases, there is an imbalance in the proportion of nutrients which your body needs to remain healthy and function properly. Some people eat whatever their appetite desires, without giving cognizance to what is the demand of their health at that same time. This is totally improper, if I judge relative to your health. On the other hand, so many people don't have any money the feed properly, but when sickness arise, the same has enough money to take care of hospital bills. Judge this set of people yourself. 

                                HOW DOES POOR NUTRITION AFFECT THE BRAIN?                In a nutshell, for the brain not to function very well at any given time, the following are the impact of  poor nutrition towards this:

1. Poor nutrition lowers the cognitive processes of the brain, especially diets rich in processed foods. This makes the brain not to be active in processing information.

2. Poor nutrition can weaken memory formation, leading to serious memory problem.

3. Poor nutrition can lead to lack of focus and concentration, due to distractions in the brain.

4. Poor diet can lead to some many emotional problems. As a result of the brain not being coordinated properly.

5. Nutrients rich in processed foods can lead to brain inflammation.

All these, are threat to the healthy condition of the brain.


3. Excessive or over stress.

What do we mean by Excessive stress or over stress?

This is a condition whereby you are subjected to too much physical activities either by yourself or someone else. In this case, every pressure will return to your brain. And here is where rest and sleep have important part to play. But so many people carry their excessive stress to enter another work that even have greater stress. These I called "Health neglectors" Such people don't care about their health, not until there is serious health problem. But this shouldn't describe any member of this blog family. Here we are health minded and conscious.

What is the negative impact of over stress to the brain?

When you are subjected to overstress, be ready to face the following brain challenges:

1. Over stress affects or reduces your problem-solving skills, making your life to be full of mistakes.

2. Over stress lowers memory formation, making you to live a life of forgetfulness and confusion.

3. Excessive stress reduces your ability to focus and concentrate when carrying out important activities, making you to live a life of distraction.

4. There is no hard saying that over stress can lead to mood swing, irritability and emotional reactivity.

5. Over stress increases brain plasticity, making it very difficult for your brain to adapt to changes.

All this affects the brain's proper functioning.  


4. Drug or Substance abuse

The last attitude that can destroy the brain, which we are about to consider here is drug or substance abuse

                             What is substance abuse?                                                    This is the misuse, wrong use or overuse of certain substances like; drugs or alcohol, which can result to physical, psychological, social and emotional harm. It occurs when you consume drugs against their stated medical norms and principles, which leads to negative consequences.

                       How does this affect the brain?                                                            Among all the key factors I have stated above, drug abuse has the most significant effect on the brain. It's effect on the brain can lead to changes in the structure, function and chemistry of the brain. The effects of drug abuse on the brain is as summarized below;

1. Chronic use of drugs is likely going to disrupt the neurotransmitters balance, such as serotonin and dopamine, which can lead to mood disturbance.

2. Continuous use of drugs can affect the prefrontal cortex and the impulse control, which are responsible for decision making, thereby leading to poor judgement and poor decision making.

3. Over use of drugs can also affect the hippocampus which helps in memory formation, thereby leading to memory damage.

4. Addiction to drugs can lead to cognitive damage.

5. Continuous drug use can lead to mood disorder, such as depression and anxiety.

6. Drug abuse can lead to impaired thinking and problem-solving.

7. Over use of drugs can result to mental disorder, including madness.     

   These and many others are how drug abuse can affect our brain. Remember that I limited this content on the brain alone, there are many other ways drug abuse can affect our lives, which is not included within the scope of this content. Hence, if you can run away from drug abuse today, you are going to secure your brain against damage and all these mentioned predicaments above.

In conclusion, our brain is the most important natural resources that God have given to us. With it (your brain), you can become something in life and accomplish all your life goals and objectives. On the other hand, if the brain is not functioning properly, it means that your life is scattered and shattered. Hence, keep your brain against damage and protect your life and future.
