Hi, the great members of my blog family. It's another interesting moment as we are going to explore another important topic today. Remember that my blog spot is dedicated to making  each of its members to remain healthy, prosper and enjoy a good and healthy long life on the planet earth as long as we live. It pleases me to talk about the heart today, in so much that it remains a very crucial and indispensable organ of our body. The heart, as important as it is should be taken proper care of so that it cannot be affected by most of the dangerous diseases surrounding us in this century. Remember anything that affects your heart, has directly affected your entire life and existence. Thus, I want to take everyone of you through;

But before we dive in completely, I want to slightly take you to some of the importance of the human heart, so that you can see the more reason you need to protect, secure and maintain it against such dangerous diseases that may try to infect it.

                                    WHAT IS THE HEART ALL ABOUT?

By definition, the heart is a muscular organ responsible for pumping blood throughout the entire part of the body. It means that every other part of the body depends on the heart to carry out their own functions, since they cannot function without the supply of blood to them. And it is through the heart that the blood can be supplied to all of them. Therefore, anything that affect the heart, has in one way or the other affected every other parts of the body. The heart in its function, continuously pumps blood through the arteries and veins, supplying  and distributing oxygen and nutrients to all the body organs and tissues. Thus, anything that affects the function of the heart, has directly affected the supply of oxygen through out the body system.
Therefore, the heart is not just important, but it is the center of life. This is because, any other part of the body can be affected and you may still be healthy and a life, but once the heart is affected, not just that you will be unhealthy, but your life may be a probability. This therefore will lead us to the crucial functions of the heart:
     
                   THE REQUISITE FUNCTIONS OF THE HEART:  
1.  The heart is the only organ responsible for the supply and distribution of blood and oxygen through out the body. And no one can survive without blood nor oxygen.

2.  The heart also plays a crucial role in the removal of carbon dioxide and some other waste products of metabolism from the body cells. This helps the body to remain healthy.

3. The heart through its pumping actions, helps to maintain a normal blood pressure.

3. It is the heart that directs blood to the lungs, where the blood is oxygenated.

4. The heart helps in regulating the amount of blood flowing through the body, by adjusting the heart rate. These are the major functions of the heart, although there are still many others. 
Now, we are going to be looking into some of the diseases that can affect the heart. 
         
      WHAT ARE THE MAJOR DISEASES ASSOCIATED WITH THE HEART?

There are so many diseases that can affect the heart and its proper functioning, but we are going to consider a few of them, according to the scope of this blog content. But before that; 
                   
                        What is heart disease all about?
When you hear about heart disease, it is all about a range of abnormalities that can affect the functions of the heart and the blood vessels. Just as every other parts of the body is affected by one disease or another, the heart is not an exception.
The following are some of the diseases that can affect the heart and makes it not to carry out its functions properly:

1. Coronary Artery Disease (CAD): This occur as a result of the narrowing of the blood vessels that supplies blood to the heart. This condition leads to chest pain, heart failure and arrhythmias. This is the most deadly heart disease so far.
   
                 Causes of  coronary artery disease include;
(a) Deposition of cholesterol.
(b) High blood cholesterol level.
(c) High blood pressure.
(d) Family history.
(e) Diabetes or high sugar level.
(f) Smoking or too much use of tobacco.
(g) Age, common with older people.
(h) Gender, it is common with the males.
(i) Over stress.

              Some of the symptoms coronary artery disease includes;
(a) Chest pains known as angina.
(b) Breathing shortness.
(c) Feeling of fatigue.
(d) Profuse sweating.
(e) Consistent weakness or dizziness.
(f) High rate of heartbeat.
(g) Nausea.

2.  Heart Failure: This situation arose whenever the blood pumped out by the heart is not sufficient to meet the need of the body.
             
             Causes of  heart failure include;
(a) Coronary artery disease.
(b) Heart attack.
(c) Overworking of the heart.
(d) Uncontrolled blood pressure.
(e) Uncontrolled sugar level.
(f) Disorderliness of sleeping, bad sleeping posture.
(g) High alcohol intake.
(h) Abnormal or Irregular heart beat.
(i) Infection from viral diseases.
(j) Ethnicity, research shows that this is common among African Americans.

              Some of the symptoms of heart failure includes;
(a) Discomfort around the regions of the chest.
(b) Chest pains.
(c) Reduced supply of blood to the important organs.
(d) Increase in weight.
(e) Fainting.
(f) Lungs congestion.
(g) Retention of water and other fluids in the heart.

3. Valve Abnormalities: This abnormalities occurs when one of the four valves in the heart is no longer working properly.
 
            Causes of  valve abnormalities include;
(a) Old age.
(b) Heart attack.
(c) High cholesterol level.
(d) High blood pressure.
(e) Diabetes
(f) Blood infections like rheumatic fever.
  
          Some of the symptoms of valve abnormalities includes;
(a) Too much fatigue.
(b) Chest pains.
(c) Dizziness.
(d) Irregular heartbeat.

4. Heart Rhythms Abnormality: This occurs as a result of irregular beating of the heart, because the electrical signals that tell the heart when to beat is not working properly.
 
             Causes of heart rhythms abnormalities include;
(a) Heart diseases.
(b) Heart muscles abnormalities.
(c) Smoking or too much use of drugs.
(d) Anxiety or  too much stress.
(e) Electrolyte imbalance, caused by low level of potassium or magnesium in the body.

         Some of the symptoms of heart rhythms abnormalities includes;
(a) Pounding of the chest.
(b) Shortness of breath.
(c) Dizziness.
(d) Weakness.
(e) Fainting.
(f) Chest discomfort.

If you have been addicted to smoking, telling you to quit may seem joking or strange. So many thought that they can no longer survive without smoking. To this end, I am not asking you not to smoke, but I want you to make a wise choice, Your life or Your smoke. (a) Smoking significantly increases the risk of certain cardiovascular diseases like; heart attack, stroke and peripheral artery diseases, and all these can kill without mercy.
(b) Smoking increases the risk of blood clotting, this will drastically reduce the circulation of blood in you body.
(c) Smoking greatly reduces the flow of oxygen in the body, due to the carbon monoxide present in it.
(d) Smoking raises the blood pressure and increases the heartbeat rate, which can lead to a serious heart disease.
Thus, the first powerful weapon to fight heart disease is your ability to quit and hate smoking.
But what if you doesn't smoke?

2. Have Enough Sleeping Time:
So many people thought that sleeping too much is a mark of identification of a weak personality, but for health wise, this is a misconception. There are 24 hours in a day, but so many people in their greed, want to utilize the whole day working, not knowing that they are suffering themselves and causing their heart serious problems, of which the profits they made from the so called work cannot be able to take care of half of the health predicament that may arise as a result of not having enough sleeping hours for themselves. In as much as my blog does not and cannot encourage laziness, at the same time, it does not promote destroying your body systems in the name of " I am hard working" so be wise. When you get enough sleep, you are protecting your heart from so many  deadly heart diseases.
        
       How?
(a) Enough sleep helps to manage your body weight. This reduces the rate of heart failure.
(b) Enough sleep is an effective way of managing your blood pressure and bringing it to normal.
(c) Enough sleep is good for managing cholesterol level. This can help to fight coronary artery disease.
We move over to the next weapon;

3. Avoid Too Much Stress: 
There are so many people outside there, that enjoys stressing themselves in everything. When you stress yourself, you put yourself under so many pressures that can directly affect the functioning of your heart, thus causing more problems to yourself. Remember, I didn't say that you will not stress yourself, but do well to avoid too much stress at least for your health's sake.

How can you fight heart disease with this?
(a) It helps to reduce heart rate.
(b) It helps to improve your sleep.
(c) It can help reduce blood pressure.
(d) It helps to normalize cholesterol level.
(e) It helps in weight management.
All these are powerful tools to fight the listed heart diseases above.

4. Eat Heart-centered Healthy Diets: 
Sometimes, you may not know that what you eat can have a direct effect on your heart. There are certain foods that does not encourage or promote the good healthy condition of your heart. But this is not the angle I will be moving today, but let me show you how you can fight and conquer heart disease by maintaining a heart-centered healthy diet;
(a) Foods that are highly rich in fats can raise cholesterol level, thereby leading to certain heart diseases. Hence, avoid them.
(b) Foods like fruits and vegetables can reduce blood pressure and normalizes cholesterol level. So eat them.
(c) Avoid foods highly rich in sodium.
(d) Run far away from sugar-rich foods.
(e) Avoid too much of refined carbohydrates, like; white bread and pastries. They increase blood sugar level.
(f) Consider foods that are rich in potassium, they lower blood pressure. Thus, reducing the risk of heart diseases.
(g) Eat more of fruits, vegetables, Whole grains, Lean proteins, nuts and seeds, and low-fat dairy foods

In summary, the weapons you can use to fight and overcome every heart disease of any category are all around you. Hence, your ability to take the above instructions will be a guide for you not to be infected by any of the listed deadly and ruinous heart diseases.
